Indian High Court Rules That the Decision to Abort... →
somepolitics: In a significant decision, the Punjab and Haryana High Court last week ruled that the right to abort a pregnancy in a marriage rests with the wife and not husband. “A woman is not a machine in which raw material is put and a finished product comes out. She should be mentally prepared to conceive, continue the same and give birth to a child. The unwanted pregnancy would naturally...

Democratic women seek a state ban on vasectomies... →
everythingisprecious: “Thousands of children are deprived of birth in this state every year because of the lack of state regulation over vasectomies,” said Rep. Yasmin Neal, author of the bill. “It is patently unfair that men can avoid unwanted fatherhood by presuming that their judgment over such matters is more valid than the judgment of the General Assembly, while women’s ability to...

'Pepper Spray Cop' Suit Filed - NPR →
brooklynmutt: Some of those Occupy protesters who famously got face fulls of pepper spray last November on the campus of University of California Davis have now filed suit in federal court. They allege “the university used excessive force to break up the demonstration,” The Sacramento Bee writes. “The Occupy UC Davis students were sprayed as they sat on the ground.” The American Civil...

Why Patriarchal Men Are Utterly Petrified of Birth... →
The advent of birth control has turned the patriarch on its head. No wonder the old guard is fighting tooth and nail against it.

How Forbes Stole A New York Times Article And Got... →
jamiek: nostrich: They say a picture is worth a thousand words, but how much is a title worth? If the story that proceeds is any indicator, a title is worth over 6700 words and months of research. It all began Friday when the New York Times published an article “How Companies Learn Your Secrets“. It was an extremely long article which discussed how large companies like WalMart and Target...

I saw some cats
Not one, not two, not three, but FOUR stray cats, sitting on rocks, soaking up the sun along the Landon Trail this morning. A dirty calico, an all-black cat, a tabby, and another speckled-calico type. It was majestic. They were like queens of the jungle. Maestros of the urban forest. I can only imagine the bounty of small rodents they are consuming daily. And how sweet that the four cats found...
